A Stormy Sunday Night

I have so much to write about. Using this blog as a my personal journal is a two edged sword sometimes. I get to blog and get to journal, but when I don't have the time or energy to blog, I have no journal entry either.

This past week we went to Lagoon and had an over-night stay in Park City. We had ourselves a good old stay-cation. It's more than we had expected to be able to do on a college-family budget. I say college family because we are one.  As Matt is a college student and also the source of nearly all our income, we have a decently tight budget. Don't get the wrong idea, we are by no means starving, but some months are a little tight. Luckily this summer we've had a blessing of some extra income, and I'll write all about that too. Maybe tomorrow....

But tonight, at the end of a long and busy week, with lots of family fun, and a terrible tragedy in the news, I've got a lot on my mind.  I gave the lesson today in Relief Society. It was on President Monson's talk entitled "The Race of Life." It is a wonderful talk in which he discusses those three great questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where do we go after this life? How wonderful it is that a living Prophet of the Lord is upon the Earth with the answers to these questions. I am so happy to have the church in my life.  I am so happy to have a husband like Matt who puts the Lord before everything else. If you are wondering about any of the answers to these questions, this is the link to President Monson's talk and you can read it yourself.

Right now, it is storming outside. Nothing terrible, but a good summer thunderstorm. I love rain and I love to see a good storm to come and cool everything off and to also clean everything. I am so grateful to have all my needs met for and to have so many great family and friends.

With Pioneer Day being two days away, much of the topics in Church today focused on that. However, one of the talks in sacrament took a little bit different approach than most pioneer talks I've heard. This man talked about how our ancestors were pioneers of travel and settlement but listed so many things that we are the pioneers of: the internet, a global community, social media, cell phones and other communication, advances in medicine and he also mentioned some of the terrible rampant sins that we have to deal with. The wide spread affliction of pornography and other even more terrible sexual sins was one example.  While we were at Lagoon, I pointed out a group of Indian women (from the Asian country, not the Native American type) and mentioned how modest they were all dressed to Matt. They all had pants that came to their ankles, their arms were covered to the elbow and none of the material was sheer or tight fitting. Matt said how nice it was to be able to look at them without averting his eyes or quickly looking away. What a terrible thing that in the middle of Utah, a man of morals has to be careful of where he looks. It was especially apparent in Lagoon, where so many of the people there were teenagers or a little older. Let's just say that lots of the outfits went against the guide lines in the Standard for Youth. The most amazing thing about those Indian women is that none of them looked extremely old fashioned. In fact, they were rather stylish. The clothing they were wearing looked comfortable and none of them appeared to be dying of heat even though it was a very hot day. It's given me a lot to think about. I know it's a bit early to be worried about it, but how am I going to teach Keldrie and any other daughters I might have how to dress in a way that will send all the right messages? Like I said, a lot to think about.

Well, I could probably find stuff to write about for the next hour or so, but since my husband has indicated he would like to go to bed, I think I'll sign off for now! Ta-Ta!
