Smith FHE and the Pumpkin Patch

A couple of months ago, my mother-in-law suggested that once a month we have a Family Home Evening with all the brothers and their families. This last Sunday was the first one. We decided to do it on Sunday since Eric and Jenny live in Logan and Ryan and Megan live in American Fork and that is a lot of driving to do on a week day.

Elaine made a delicious dinner that we all enjoyed.

After dinner we all settled in for the lesson. Eric's family was assigned the opening song. Eric brought the keyboard up from the basement and after fiddling with it for a minute, played the first opening notes of the song.

That giant smile on his face is because he got the reaction he wanted from his dad. He had the keyboard set to pipe organ. Once everyone finished giggling, he started up again, leaving the keyboard setting the same. We all managed to get through the opening song. After that was the prayer by Julia, a emergency preparedness moment by Ryan and then Matt and I had the lesson. We gave the quickest lesson of all time about how we have to feed our spirits just like we have to feed our bodies. Then we talked about the things we can do to feed our spirits. Greg then had each of the kids color a picture of something nice they could do for their parents.

We finished it up with a closing prayer and treats. It was so much fun. I don't know how much the kids learned, but I'm sure that as they get older it will get better.

Yesterday, (Thursday) Gaby invited Kel and I to go with Josh's joy school to the pumpkin patch. We went to the Black Island Farms in Syracuse and it was so much fun and a great deal for the price.

On the trailer, waiting to be pulled to the pumpkin patch.

Found the perfect one!

After the kids picked their pumpkins, the trailer took us back to where we started and the kids got to play on the slides and other things they had.

All the kids at the top of the slide!

Keldrie climbing up to the slide. Almost there!
As a side note, There was one much bigger slide that Keldrie wanted to go on. It had the same netting on it but it was a much steeper angle and she needed help getting up as well as a partner to go down with. I managed to pull myself and push her up it twice. It was quite a slide. I didn't get a picture of the slide, but Gaby said she did. Once I get a copy of it, I'll put it on here. After the second time down, I realized that maybe it was not an appropriate activity for a woman in her second trimester, but oh well.

After watching the pigs race and having a tantrum or two, (Keldrie, not Julia, Josh or Andrew. They were all angels) we stopped for one last photo of the day and then bought some kettle corn on our way out. It was tons of fun and I'm so glad that Gaby invited us. Keldrie proudly showed her daddy her pumpkin when he got home from work.
