All month Keldrie has been very excited about Halloween. She has been dragging her trick or treat bag all over the house, and putting all sorts of things in it. We started the day at the Library, like we do most Mondays. It was perfect. They had regular story time, followed by a parade around the library to show off their costumes to all the "big people" as the librarian called them. She had a blast.
Next we went to visit my sister Chelsea at my parents house. She has some fancy sounding sickness that really means that the lining of her lungs are swollen. She could barely swallow. She loved seeing Keldrie in her costume. So did my mom and brother.
About two, we headed out to Grandma James's place. She is at an assisted living place called Legacy right near our house. When we got there, we meet Grandma Smith (Grandma James's daughter) and Gaby and her kids. Everything started out fine. We went and saw Grandma James and then went to the Fishing Pond.
Keldrie "caught" some bubbles. After that, we went to the balloon clown.
Keldrie got a puppy dog. After that, we went to check if the spook alley was up our alley. While we were looking at the entrance, a man dressed in this exact costume came out.
That was the end of that. Keldrie was terrified. She clung to me and was shaking and asked to go home. We tried to tough it out, but after a few more doors, she was clearly too shaken to just move on. She was still shaking, her face was flushed and she was near tears. We left Grandma Smith, Gaby, and the kids and went back to say good-bye to Grandma James. Once we were outside Keldrie said to me, "Mommy, I'm happy now."
Well, we decided to join my Uncle Mike and his grand-kids as they went trick-or-treating later that night. Mike and Barbara live in our neighborhood, so we figured it would work out nice. Well, off we went. After the first house, she seemed to be okay, after the second one she was whinny and after the third she begged to go back to Barbara's house. She seemed to still be worried about the man with nails in his face. I figured if she wasn't enjoying herself, there was no need to continue. We went to Barbara's house but even there, she wanted to go to our house. So we packed it all up, came home, and watched Dora the Explorer until bedtime.
All in all, I don't think Halloween in Kel's holiday. Oh well. I bet Thanksgiving will be kinder to my sweet girl. I hate being scared too, so I guess she comes by it honestly.
Oh no poor Kel! That would have scared me too! Lance has never loved Halloween either for that reason, he hates scary things, thankfully now because of the candy he does like it. But for years any tiny little thing would set him off in tears. Maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteBesides Thanksgiving is better anyway, lots of great food right!
