Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving my assignment was pies! Three of them. Apple, banana cream, and chocolate. I've watched my mom make pies every thanksgiving for as long as I can remember. Lots of them too. And us kids would sit around hoping to get to eat the leftover dough. This year I had Matt to watch, I didn't have to share the extra dough, and they came out better than I expected!
Here are the left over cores and peels of the apples for my apple pie.
Apple pie has a crust on top, and this is something I had never done before. The edges were a little thick, but that really doesn't make the pie taste bad or anything.
For the banana and chocolate cream pies, you cook the crust first and then pour in the filling. This is something I had done before, but I had always cheated and used the jello filling. This year I made the pudding from scratch and it came out beautiful!
Matt helped me by cutting the banana slices while I cooked the pudding.
Ta-Da!!!
I finished the pies with just enough time to only make us 20 minutes late. Of course I underestimated how long it would take for me and Kel to get ready. Then it was off to Grandma and Grandpa Smith's house to help Elaine finish all those last minute things. I was assigned to iron table clothes and Matt got to snow blow the drive way since Steve had surgery on his shoulder and can't do it.
The best part about Thanksgiving is family and Kel sure loved being with her cousins.
Toy Story 3 came in handy both before and after dinner so the grown ups could enjoy themselves.
Look at beautiful little Katelynn, all dressed up for the big day. Sorry Jenny, I cut off your head. But your sweater still looks cute!
On Saturday, I was hoping to have a bunch of girlfriends over for diet coke and chatting, but it sort of fell apart due to a lot of different factors. However, Gaby and her kids did come up and we had a ball making sugar cookies. I asked Julia what sort of cookies she wanted to make and she said pink, so we made sugar cookies and had pink frosting. Josh and Julia had lots of fun watching me and then when it came to cut the cookies, they each got to cut out a bunch. We cooked them and then Julia helped me make the frosting. Then came the real fun part, frosting the cookies!

Keldrie is the only one looking at the camera. Classic. Thanks Gaby for letting me cover your kids in flour and frosting. I loved it!

  1. I have no problems with you cutting off my head, I am sure I was making a dopey face or something anyway!

Thanksgiving was great wasn't it, so relaxing, probably not for Elaine but man I loved it. I have the best sister in laws ever and I love talking to all of you.

Sorry I couldn't make it Saturday, Logan is just too far away at times, you know....
