On Thursday, Matt turned 25 years old. He got a few small presents for his birthday but he saved most of his money for a new set of scriptures. They are beautiful too. His other set is the one he took on his mission and although he loves them, he wanted a new set. I totally understand because I asked for my second set when I was 17. The birthday boy got to pick what he wanted to do on his big day, and his pick sort of surprised me at first. The Train Museum at the Union Station in Ogden. But we all had a blast so I guess it was a good pick.
Outside the museum, there are 4 or 5 big engines just sitting out that you can go look at. Matt and I kept talking about how huge they were. You know that a train is big, but standing next to one makes you really appreciate how powerful these things were.
There is Kel and I walking down the ramp between two engines.
This train had huge wheels! Looking at those trains really makes you feel for the people in that movie "Unstoppable". Matt and I watched that about 2 months ago. I though I would hate it, I loved it.
This is a caboose. Did you know that the caboose was for the crew of the train to rest in? No idea. I just thought that the last car on the train got a special name. After looking around a little more, we headed inside to see the stuff you have to pay to see.
This is a replica of the inside of the caboose. Keldrie was more than happy to climb up there and look out the window. They also have a replica engine you can sit in and the most amazing model train set you have ever seen. That was defiantly Kel's favorite part. After we took this photo, my camera died, so you will just have to imagine the rest of our trip at the museum. We went upstairs to the Browning Gun Museum. They had tiny little pistols and 7 foot long machine guns and all sorts of stuff in between. While we were up there, Keldrie just kept screaming about the trains, so we didn't stay long. Then we went down to look at the old model cars they have. The earliest one was from 1901 and the engine was in the back and it had no doors and no windshield. The cars were pretty awesome. Then we looked at the model trains one more time before heading home.
On our way home, we picked up a pizza from Tony's. Anyone been there? My mom and dad went there growing up and so I grew up knowing it and Matt has become a quick convert. They are pretty good priced too. A medium, one topping pizza with an order of garlic bread was under $10 with tax. By the time we were done eating, Kel was ready for her nap. So upstairs she went. Matt and I watched a movie and I made his birthday cheesecake. I got the recipe off a friend's blog. (Thanks Nikki). Before anyone goes getting too impressed, it was a 4 ingredient recipe and one of those was the pre-made oreo pie crust.
Matt's mom invited us over there for dinner and it was so good. Food made by someone else always tastes better, it seems. Afterwards I whipped the cream for topping and we got ready to sing!
We sang, Matt blew out the candles, and we all enjoyed a very fattening piece of Easy Chocolate Cheesecake.
Happy Birthday, Handsome! Thanks for sharing it with me!
What a cute idea I think that's darling Matt chose that activity on his birthday. It looks really fun. So that is intersting about the caboose I had no idea, I just thought it got a special name too for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI love Tony's I have only been there maybe twice, but I loved it both times. One of those places I tend to forget about and then when we go I think we don't we go her more often.
Sounds like a great birthday for Matt, I am so glad you all had a great day!
